For optimal alignment, the work environment must adequately address these psychological variables, while the individual must also meet the requirements of the work setting. It’s not solely about the environment fitting the individual; the individual must also fit the environment. When this mutual compatibility occurs, it’s called unity, signalling a harmonious match between the person and their work environment.

Social Cognitive Type

Social Cognitive Career Theory, introduced by Lent, Brown, and Hackett in 1996, amalgamates elements of social learning theory and cognitive theories to offer insights into career development. This theory comprises three fundamental components: self-efficacy, outcome expectations, and personal goals. Career counselling under this framework revolves around empowering individuals to cultivate self-efficacy, addressing their beliefs about the outcomes of career actions (outcome expectations), and guiding them in establishing and pursuing personal goals. At the same time, this type of career counselling is also entirely unused in the field.
