Scholastic Aptitude Test

What is the SAT Exam ?

The SAT is a standardized test widely used for college admissions to bachelors in the United States. The Scholastic Aptitude Test is conducted by the college board. The SAT is typically taken by high school juniors and seniors. The College Board states that the SAT measures literacy, numeracy and writing skills that are needed for academic success in college. It has four sections: Reading, Writing and Language, Math (no calculator), and Math (calculator allowed). The test taker may optionally write an essay which, in that case, is the fifth test section. The total time for the scored portion of the SAT is three hours (or three hours and fifty minutes if the optional essay section is taken). 

Test Format

The total score of SAT exam is out of 1600 and the test validity is 5 years. The evidence based reading and writing test is of 800 marks and the maths section is of another 800 marks. Reg optional essay is scored on a scale of 2-8. Sat exam is conducted 4 times in a year – March, May, October, December. SAT test results are typically released within 4-5 weeks of the test administration and can be viewed online. Students can choose to send their test scores to colleges of their choice. 

Reporting and Costing

The cost of the SAT exam is 109$ with essay and 95$ without the essay. Students can report scores to Universities for free upto 4 Universities at the time of Exam registration and up to 9 days after the test. Each additional score report costs 12$.

SAT Subject Tests or SAT II

Besides the regular SAT exams, students can also opt for the SAT subject exams to showcase specific subject abilities and increased admission chances. There are 20 SAT Subject Tests in five general subject areas: English, History, Languages, Mathematics and Science. All SAT Subject Tests are one‐hour, multiple‐choice tests. In any given sitting of the SAT Subject Tests, you can take one, two or three tests. SAT Subject Tests are offered 5 times in a year in May/June/Oct/Nov/Dec. A student cannot take the SAT Subject Tests and the SAT on the same test date.
